16th October 2008

Today we continued to design our school magazine front covers, and moved onto our contents page using Quark Express to do so. The contents page is a single page spread consisting of 10 feature articles.
15th October 2008

Today we began working on our school magazine front covers, using Photoshop. We had to begin putting the codes and conventions of a magazine which we had learnt into practice. We had to use a medium close-up of a pupil as the background of the front cover and then proceed to create cover lines and a main title.

14th October
We had a re-cap on how to use the editing software, Photoshop which is going to be used to design our magazine front cover. After this our teacher introduced us to the new software which we will use in order to design our contents page, Quark express. We had a demonstration given to us on the computer and all had to follow along, making our own double spread article samples.
13th October 2008

Today we began taking the pictures which were going to appear in the magazine for the preliminary exercise. This involved using our imagination and taking pictures which were relevant to the articles which were going feature in the magazine.

I used this image for my front cover:

I used the following images for my contents page:

10th October 2008

Today we continued the preliminary exercise for our coursework, we had to design a rough sketch on paper of the front cover and contents page, all of the images which were going to appear on the front cover and contents page had to be decided in preparation for taking them in the next lesson.
9th October 2008

Today we began the preliminary exercise of our coursework.
This involves coming up with a magazine front cover and contents page for a new school magazine. Before starting this we had to list the images and cover lines which would appear on the front cover and contents page. The front cover must contain one image; this image is a medium close-up of a pupil within the school, which the school magazine is based upon.
We also had to list 10 feature articles and some regular content which would appear on the contents page for the school magazine.
8th October 2008

After all the images were taken on the 7th we had to upload them onto the computer and give them all a caption in our groups. When each group had uploaded their images our teacher displayed them to the class and we talked about the strengths and weaknesses of certain shots from each group.
7th October 2008

Today we put the camera angles we learnt on the 6th into action. We were split into groups of 4/5 and had to come up with images in the following shots:
o A low angle medium close-up
o A high angle long shot
o An extreme close-up of time
o A big close-up of someone using a mobile phone
o A close-up of someone in “nature”
o A two shot in medium long shot
o An over the shoulder shot of someone writing
o A very long shot conveying isolation
o A medium close-up of a teacher
o A long shot of someone who is drunk

On the final two camera angles we had to convey we had to use our imagination and were not allowed to use any people or body parts in the pictures, these were:
o A photograph which has connotations of friendship
o A photograph which has connotations of stress
